Green Home Sustainable Luxury: Hickory Nut Forest Eco Community “Open House Tour” in Asheville NC

(Having trouble viewing the video above?  Check it out on Youtube – Video Tour of Ryan Lubber’s Green Home – Sustainable Luxury in Hickory Nut Forest eco community)

If you’ve ever been to Asheville, NC, then you know it’s a unique community and beautiful place with plenty of beautiful Eco villages to check out.  Recently, my family (Kathy, Jolie, Johnny and I) got a chance to visit our dear friend who lives there (Debbie Wilson Pustorino), and she invited us to “Hickory Nut Forest Open House Tour,” presented by The Western North Carolina Green Building Council.

As the 2012 Western NC Green Building Directory reports, one of the many great things we learned about Hickory Nut Forest is that it’s “a 200+ acre eco-community in Gerton, NC where residents share a 10-acre organic garden and heirloom orcahrd, alogn with acess to miles of trails through forest protected under a conservation easement.”  It was founded by John Myers and Jane Lawson, who bout the land and had the dream that is now becoming a reality.  We got to meet John and Jane, and they are truly wonderful and warm.  In fact, their

I was amazed by the homes we saw and the people we met, and I was excited to learn that all three of the properties we visited, including the one above, were owned (and some, co-built) by first-time builders who successfully created  what I consider to be “Sustainable Luxury.”

What exactly is Sustainable Luxury?   For me, it’s simply luxury combined with Eco-friendly / Green / Sustainable development and something I plan to help create.  Of course,  much like beauty, luxury is “in the eye of the beholder.”  See if you agree with my assessment of the first Sustainable Luxury property we toured above, owned by first-time builder Ryan Lubbers, and co-built by Nate Ballinger.

Low-cost Indie Artists Plan for Live show CD sales reporting to Soundscan

Not long ago, we ( launched a new “Pay Per Report” pricing plan for independent touring artists that allows live performance artists to sign up for Venue Sales Reporting (live show CD Sales reporting) to Soundscan for only $33 a year and $5 per report. Its great for artist with only a few shows lined up each month but they want to ensure they are reporting their sales.

Of course, for busier artists, we still have the monthly and annual plans (greatest overall savings).

Day 9 through today + The Master Cleanse once again

Day 9 through today + The Master Cleanse once again

I’ve been doing great on the NO REFINED SUGAR diet and have stuck to raw veggies, fruit and soy shakes (with whey protein) throughout the day and a cooked organic, wholesome meals (e.g. rice and beans, fish, veggies, etc.) in the evenings (accept for the last two days.. more below), so I don’t think I’ll post anymore about my life without refined sugar.

I had a follow-up appointment with my Dr. last week to find out why my abdomen was sore only to find out I’m full of $#i!.  After all sorts of tests, it turns out I’m not drinking enough water.. .and even though I only eat fruits, raw and cooked veggies, nuts and other healthy meals my wife prepares… my Dr. recommended I DETOX!. Not because of toxins per se, more so to clean my colon.

I love the Master Cleanse detox for so many reasons, not to mention it only takes organic lemons, organic maple syrup (Grade B), cayenne and filtered water to prepare.

Since I first tried the Master Cleanse while on tour with my band, State of Man, a few years back, and LOVED it, I got the Dr.’s approval to do it again.  Today is day 2 and my energy is great, not to mention my stomach feels much better!

Last time, I did it for 17 days to detox, but I don’t think I’ll do it quite as long this go round b/c I don’t really want to lose weight. lol   We’ll see what happens.

This time around has been much so far… despite my wife making my favorite veggie casadias for the children tonight.. lol.

A year in a life without refined sugar – Day 8

Here’s what I ate on 3/8/12:

2 large grape fruits, one orange + Green Tea (no sweetener)

2 fish tacos, chips and salsa at California pizza kitchen (business meeting lunch)

Snack 1

John Stringer's 03/08/12 Dinner

Tilapia, hummus, couscous, salad, organic veggie chips and salsa (thanks to my awesome wife who always makes yummy, healthy dinners)
Diet Plan

Pescetarian lunch and evening + raw fruit breakfast

day off (following 4-hour body weight gain routine)

Had a lot of energy all day up until after lunch.  Not sure what was in the fish tacos, chips or salsa, but it made me very sleepy.
Not to self: don’t order that again.
